Sketches and Valentines

Been sketching more lately:

and started a personal piece that I've wanted to do for a long time. Its on yupo paper, It's fun and frustrating at the same time! It throws out the standard rules of watercolor and you can lift things out with just a little dab, so saving whites are not an issue. It's slick surface forces you to be looser and creates beautiful textures. It can be hard to control at times, because its literally like painting on plastic, buts that's part of the fun too. Below is the work in process, will post more as I find time to complete the piece.

I hope everyone had a great valentines day yesterday. Even though it is an over the top commercialized holiday, it has always been a rather special day for me. Not only does my husband buy me flowers, it is also the anniversary of adopting our cats from SPCA 6 years ago. Our valentines gift for each other this year: he bought me a pot of my favorite plant, hydrangeas, and I painted a our baby girls as a heart shape for him. I love my family and can't imagine my life without them
