SF BAZAAR

I will be at ‪#‎SFBAZAAR‬ this weekend (12/13 & 12/14) at Fort Mason with my Booth mate Ciaee Ching! This place is like a live esty store, perfect place to complete your holiday gift shopping, AND its FREE admission! Come by and say hi, we are at booth 28! Our friend Yuki Yamagata is right next to us at booth 27 too.

I'll be selling prints, tote bags, greeting cards, books and other goodies. One of these goodies are Fuzzball sticker sheets! They are thick durable vinyl with uv laminate protection. 8.5 by 11 sheets with 10 different Fuzzball stickers!

Just got the word that Fuzzball ‪#‎emojis‬ will be available on Ree early next year! Can't wait to see him on my phone. For now, check out the free app @ www.reestickers.com.

Demos this Fall Semester

Catching up on posting here, below are some demos I did over the last month:

Subbed for a class where the in-class assignment was caricatures. After showing examples from amazing artists like: David Levine, Jason Seiler, Ricardo Martinez, Steve Brodner & Tim Bower. I handed out mirrors for all the students to do a self-caricature. I did one too!

A step by step landscape demo I showed my watercolor students:

Another landscape:

Subbed for another class, where I took the students out for their first plein air painting! We went to Huntington park near Grace Cathedral.

November already?

Phew, time just flies on by! It's mid November already. Work has been crazy! Juggling teaching, finishing painting "Leo's Ball" a sequel to "Leo's Job", painting a set of Fuzzball emojis, worked on an exciting but secret project, preparing for Holiday SF Bazaar, planning for a move and a trip etc etc..... I've never been so burnt out! I need to stop saying YES so much. Just need to push through another month! Crossing my fingers I don't get sick!

Meanwhile heres an update on October, it was inktober and I managed to participate 15 out of 31 days. It was a lot of fun, wish I could do more or spend more time in my sketchbook, these definitely revived my love for ink! Here are my ink doodles:

My favorite ink piece, started as a demo for my class, then I just had to finish it.

Finally got a haircut a week ago! :P

Thanks for stopping by, heres a sneak peak of the endpapers of Leo's Ball:

Centaur Kid

Just realized, I've never posted this piece here. I did this maybe 1-2 months ago. All digital! Yes, I know, quite unlike me to spend time on a full on digital piece and not paint in watercolor. That's exactly why I decided to do it, its been a quite a while and its time to do some practice.

I loved the way it turned out and really enjoyed painting my character in that lighting. DAPPLE LIGHT IS AWESOME!

Long time no post!

oh I know its been forever! Using instagram has just gotten so convenient, sharing on multiple platforms in one click, but I'll still update here every month or so with a longer post.
So what have I been up to lately?

1) Finished teaching summer semester, nice small classes with a group of great students!
Heres some pics of demos and my classes:

Their final projects. They did so well! this is their very first illustration class on their 1st semester!

Heres 60% wip of a Red Panda <3 p="">

I gave this one away to my mother-in-law for her b-day and she loved it!

2) Besides teaching, I've finished all the line drawings for Leo's Ball and is now working on the color studies. It's digital for now, for the speed and flexibility. I'll be using watercolors like the 1st book for the final pieces!

3) And today I'm excited to receive the news that Fuzzball, the kitty character I created (He makes his own rules!) won a contest with Ree! REE is an independent artist friendly emoji platform currently available on iTunes. I'm going to be a featured artist there and I can't wait to paint more Fuzzball!

Yupo paper

Experimented some more with Yupo paper. Hard to control but a lot of fun!

Busy Busy Bee

I know, I know its been awhile...... 2 months! I'm sorry, blogging is just not my thing and the fact that blogspot is not linked with instagram just makes updating harder. If you want to see more frequent updates please follow me on instagram or Tumblr:

Okay so heres what I've been up to the last 2 months:

- My dear friend Erin Fellows gave me this amazing thing!

- Wrapped up teaching for Spring 2014. Heres some progress shot of the last demo I did for the semester:

 - Finished the line drawings for my story "The Night Owl". Now I need to print these out and make a dummy! If you want to see the character designs for these 2 besties, heres the link to a previous blog post: http://isabellakung.blogspot.com/2014/02/my-main-characters-for-my-story.html

-Had a booth with Yuki Yamagata at SF BAZAAR tent in Maker's Fair. Thank you to those who stopped by and said hi!

-Working on the line drawings for the 2nd Leo book! Below is a sneak peak:

Heres a link to the 1st book: http://isabellakung.blogspot.com/2011/11/leos-job-is-out.html. If you are interested in purchasing a copy signed by both the author and I please feel free to email me at info@isabellakung.com

Now I'm trying to get as much of my freelance work done before the Summer semester starts, I think I took on too much teaching. Balancing these 2 careers are one of the toughest part of it all, I want to say yes to so many exciting projects, but when I take on too much, my entire life is consumed by work.

Thanks for dropping by!
